Junior Software Engineer

Are you excited to kick-start your career in a dynamic and modern tech environment and contribute to building scalable, high-performing applications? Are you curious and highly motivated to grow as an engineer while working alongside experienced professionals in an inspiring and supportive team? Then you might be the one we’re looking for!

Whiteaway Group started with a simple idea, a commitment to our customers, and with a passion for digital innovation. Today, we’re a successful retailer, selling and delivering household appliances across Scandinavia. We’re change-makers at heart – it’s the very core of everything we do.

We’re looking for a Junior Backend Engineer to join Whiteaway Group’s Tech team in Aarhus. You’ll be part of a talented and passionate software development department of around 45 people, working in autonomous squads. You’ll be mentored and supported as you build your skills and grow into a confident and capable backend engineer.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Develop backend microservices within an event-driven architecture
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the company’s e-commerce solutions
  • Take part in problem-solving discussions and learn to contribute to architectural decisions
  • Continuously improve your skills through collaboration, hands-on experience, mentorship, and hackathons

Tech stack you’ll work with

  • Languages & Frameworks: TypeScript, Node.js
  • Infrastructure: AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform
  • Databases: MySQL, NoSQL (DynamoDB)
  • Architecture: Microservices, event-driven design, API integrations (REST, third-party services)

What we’re looking for:

You don’t need to have years of experience—just a strong interest in backend development, eagerness to learn, and some exposure to modern JavaScript/TypeScript technologies. If you’ve done personal projects, coursework, or internships in backend development, we’d love to see them!

It’s an additional bonus if you:

  • Have some familiarity with TypeScript or Node.js
  • Are interested in cloud technologies (AWS is a plus)
  • Want to learn about Domain Driven Design and M.A.C.H. architecture (Microservices, API first, Cloud native and Headless)
  • Are a team player who enjoys learning from others and growing with them
  • Like to come in and work from our office — we really enjoy the energy of being together in person!

We like to think we have quite an amazing workplace, including:

  • A dynamic and international environment with room for you to be you,
  • Lots of opportunities for your own professional development and for you to make an impact,
  • A flat, informal organisation with a high degree of independence and short decision-making processes,
  • Attractive settings for the job, to mention some: flexible work hours, health care, lunch scheme, Friday breakfast, gym, and great social events.
